Filmmaking, or in the language of a film buff “film production”, is the process of making a motion-picture. Filmmaking involves an act of discrete stages including an initial story, idea or deputation, through screenwriting, casting, shooting, auditory sensation recording and reproduction, editing, and screening the finished product before an audience that may result in a motion picture release and exhibition. Filmmaking takes spot in many places around the world in a range of economic, social, and political contexts, and using a variety of technologies and cinematic technique. Typically, it involves a large number of people, and can take from a few months to several years to complete. Learning film making is a lot fun if someone is passionate about the process and wants to dig deep into the world of film making. Many people have dedicated their life in film production and as they always say, “once a film maker always a film maker”. Learning film making is very interesting because while watching a cinema we do not get to know the work behind the curtain, where a humongous team works day and night for the completion of the film. So learning the process of film making allows us to explore those grounds which are unavailable for the common mass. It also gives us an edge over others who aspire to make a career in film production, by imparting us the value of hard work and thorough dedication. The film making process goes through a lot of stages, such as Development stage, Pre-production stage, Production stage, Post-production stage, and Exhibition. For a film maker these stages are very important because it is something which will decide later on how good executioner you are! A good film maker is also an executioner, if he doesn’t then his films will not be as desired. Top film schools in Delhi teach the entire process of film production.
Film studies courses are all about learning the art of film making. It is like giving birth to a thought (idea) and nurturing it through the production stage which is the juvenile stage of one’s thought, the post production stage is where it is adult, it has gained a form a nice shape with all its components (foley, background score, dubbing), the final stage is when that thought has grown into a full-fledged cinema. Just like our parents are proud of us when we achieve something in our life, the same feeling is experienced by the film maker when he watches his idea grow into a film and he is proud of his work. This is what the essence of learning film making is all about—the dedication, the creativity, the enthusiasm, and the passion—all for the knowledge of film theory that sips through every possible juncture to mark a birth of a film maker in this world of cinema.
